Angel Wings and Flabby Things

A darling woman  in one of my classes approached me and asked how to get rid of her ‘angel wings’, i.e., that under arm flab.  She proceeded to lift her arms and wave them back and forth.  Over the past year, Mary had lost 30  pounds.  {Way to GO!}  What a great start to a healthy lifestyle.  Her primary way to slim down had been Weight Watchers, but recently as she added exercise to her day, she was beginning to build up her strength and stamina. The two key ingredients essential to achieving your best self are consistent exercise–AND eating a sensible diet.  For the first time in her life Mary was actually enjoying working out, and more importantly she was feeling great about herself.

Without a doubt, the under arm area, or the triceps are a trouble spot for most women.  The triceps, are made up of a three-headed muscle that resides on the bottom and middle portions of your upper arms.  The opposing muscles to the triceps are the biceps.  If negleted, they do begin to sag, especially as we age.  Contrary to popular infomercials, it is NOT possible to spot target one area on your body and change it’s appearance.  Working on your body as a whole, as well as your diet, will help to eventually slim down and strengthen those trouble spots.

To most efficiently tone up problem areas, including those ‘angel wings’, add resistance, or weight lifting (2-3 times per week), along with cardio (3-5 times per week).  Don’t forget to include flexibility training as well. (at least one session per week)  By having a well-rounded exercise program that you stick with, you will see results in no time!
